Merry season of Empathy
Thoughts tumble around at this time of year for the people who are less fortunate than ourselves. They ring harshly with reminders from rattling boxes on the streets to emails from Charities, visually on TV to heart rending stories in the papers. The Good cheer of the season is slightly dampened, for ones who's hearts are aware of others situations.
I am a bit of sponge myself to this running sadness, the rise in homelessness makes my heart hurt. I have slept rough in my younger years, ran away from home and a bad situation. I am not pompous and do not turn my back or state they should never have got themselves into that situation in the first place.
Life deals us some tough cookies and we deal with it or we do not, some do not because they cannot.
My toughest call is trying to pass the homeless person in the doorway of a shop in the main Town, Christmas shoppers pass them by turning their heads oblivious to them. It's Christmas time for goodness sake, where is the goodwill to all men? Where is the feeling for humanity? Above all what about empathy?
It costs you nothing to spend time with them, to pop in a shop and buy them a soup and roll to keep them fed for a while. After all you will only spend too much and have regrets when you get home, so do something worthwhile and feel at peace your heart instead.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year to come.
But just remember, Love costs nothing.
